FALL OF 2008 SELECTIONS
Rapunzel Join us for this lively tale which is an adaptation of the Grimm Fairy Tale. A young couple loses their child to a witch. The young girl, Rapunzel, is locked in a tower, to where only the witch can climb on the girl's golden hair. Alone and sad, Rapunzel sings to herself and it is this habit which attracts the young prince who become her true love. Join us as we find out what happens when the witch discovers their secret.

The Princess and the Pea, the story of this play is based on the tale as related by Hans Andersen in the collection of tales,"Tales Told for Children," published in 1835. Prince Jonhnathan has been searching for a bride. He hasn't been successful because he only wants to marry a real princess. A wicked storm brings a guest to the castle, Ophelia, who claims to be a real princess. The King insists that Ophelia must pass three tests to prove her lineage. Join us to see if Ophelia is truly a real princess.
Jack Tales Come follow Jack along his many adventures in our new play this Fall. Did you know that Jack went after other Giants other than the one up the Bean Tree? These stories have been talked about and passed down for years in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. We are very excited to see where these new adventures of Jack will take us!
The Gingerbread Boy (December Only) Ahoy! Ahoy! What a joy! What a joy! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Boy. Gerry heads out to find adventure, life, liberty, and happiness. He's sure he is the best at everything, but after challenging some people he meets to games and tests of knowledge he decides to return home because he still has a lot to learn. This play is available December 1st through December 22nd.
SPRING 2009 SELECTIONS
Another Strand in the Web Come discover more spider tales with us in this play. The first story is about why spiders live on the ceiling and we see how Ananse outwits Leopard and find a safe place to hide. The next story is about the stone with a beard where Ananse finds a magical stone and uses it to trick the animals out of their food. The last story is when Ananse goes fishing and you might be familiar with this one! It is favorite of our audiences!
Hansel and Gretel, journey with us to the forest for this play where the audience becomes scary trees and then changes into the land of treats. After Hansel and Gretel are sent by the father to gather berries in the deep dark forest they become lost and have to spend the night in the forest. In the morning they find a house made of sweets and they are invited in by a lovely old witch. Join us to see what happens next!
The Disinclined Dragon, the story of this play is based on the tale as related by Kenneth Grahame in the collection of stories," Dream Days," published in 1898. Samantha, a shepherd's daughter is known far and wide for her "book learning," and is sent to get to know the dragon that her father discovers in a cave in his fields. As is turns out this dragon likes to read and write poetry and is thrilled to meet Samantha who shares his love for culture. Join us to see how the town of Hamlet handles the battle of St. George and the Dragon!
SUMMER 2009
Creating Jack Tales a new play by Lou Peters, Artistic Director for Rags To Riches theatre for young audiences. Paying homage to the Appalachian tradition from which these tales have sprung, Viola Buxom and Sye Buckwagon try to best each other's Jack Tale. The tale of "Jack and the Bean Tree" is interwoven with "Jack and the Melon Patch" and "Bean Tree with a Beard." Original music played and sung by Peters and fellow member, Kelly Summers is sure to bring ol' Jack to life. Hope to see you on the road. Last time I a hear it, Jack was a doin' pretty well.
